Multi-Generational Wealth Planning

Lisa Detanna has been named one of the country’s top financial advisers, making it to the top 100 list for Forbes and Barron’s for several years. With her work in Raymond Jones, Lisa Detanna focuses on multi-generational wealth planning and helping affluent and high-net-worth families prepare the next generation to manage their assets.

One of the most frightening statistics that family-owned businesses face is that only 30 percent of them survive to the second generation, and even less to the third and onwards. Multi-generational wealth planning for a family office became one of the essential methods of discovering concrete methods to preserve the family’s net worth and assets and even potentially increase them in the next generation. A lack of trust between the wealth builder (i.e. the original generation) and the descendants is the most frequent reason for lost wealth and assets. The leader of a family office needs to plan on educating the heirs for proper wealth management and exposing them to the business at the right time.

Long-term investing plans can look beyond quarterly changes and make up for short-term losses. An airtight succession plan also eases the transition of wealth from one generation to the next and provides guidelines for each descendant’s role in the family office.

Barron’s Ranks Top Financial Advisors

Lisa Detanna, an experienced financial advisor, serves as managing director and senior vice president of investments at the Beverly Hills office of Raymond James. A multi-awarded finance professional, Lisa Detanna ranked 24th in Barron’s “2021 Top 100 Women Financial Advisors” list.

Every year, Barron’s publishes four categories of individual financial advisor rankings: the Top 100 Advisors, the Top 100 Women Advisors, the Top 100 Independent Advisors, and the Top 1,200 Advisors. The rankings recognize the best financial advisors in the country and raise the financial services industry standards.

To be considered for any one of the lists, advisors answer a 102-item questionnaire about their practice. The information the advisors provide is verified with available data from financial services firms and regulatory bodies. The ranks are calculated according to three major categories: Assets, Revenue, and Quality of Practice.

The amount and types of assets that the advisor and their team oversee are considered. Types of assets are further broken down to institutional (for endowment or foundation) or corporate. As to revenues, the revenue that the advisor contributes to their firm is considered. As to the quality of practice, qualitative factors such as experience, credentials and designations, charitable contributions, and compliance records. The scores are calculated by assigning 100 as the top score. The highest-ranked advisor is determined, and the rest of the advisors are compared to them.
